Bluefin Tuna Strike, by Gilbert van Ryckevorsel
Bluefin Tuna Strike features a giant bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) moments before feasting on an Atlantic mackerel. Photographer Gilbert van Ryckevorsel captured this shot while diving in a tuna pen in St. Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada on an early afternoon in August 1975. The photographer had been handfeeding the fish to gain its trust. Due to the decline in abundance of Atlantic bluefin, this net fishery went out of business decades ago, along with the opportunity to photograph these magnificent fish. This photo may remain among the best, if not the best, images of bluefin tuna ever taken. At harvesting time the fish weighed in at 1,250 pounds.

This 17" x 22" edition of Bluefin Tuna Strike is available for purchase unframed for $225, or framed for $425. Proceeds will support the Tag-A-Giant Foundation's science, policy and conservation initiatives.
